Drayton Valley at a Glance
Brave settlers first made their way to the Drayton Valley area more than 100
years ago, initially making their livings as lumbermen, trappers and, eventually,
farmers. The community remained quiet for several years, until black gold was
discovered in the area in 1953. The then population of 75 people boomed to 2,000
in only one year, and today Drayton Valley thrives with a young, energetic
population and an optimistic outlook.
Located in Alberta's Heartland,
residents make their way throughout town using the Drayton
Valley Trail System.
The community comes together often throughout the year for a number of events,
and the town's Omniplex
is the epicentre for activities, housing ice rinks, a curling rink and fitness
facilities, and is equipped with several outdoor sports fields as well. The
Thunder in the Valley Drag race first roared into town in 2005, and quickly
took the lead as one of the most entertaining and energetic events of the
year, drawing more than 2,000 spectators in 2006.
